The Philosophy behind our Logo and Slogan: The Johann Grobler Foundation


Community Centered, Collaboration, Impact:


To be Community Centered represents the Foundation to understanding communities or groups. Without good insight of a community, one would not be able to provide support that makes a lasting, positive difference. Think of it in marketing terms. If a business has its target market wrong, and do not understand what their customers need, or fail to respond to how the market changes, it is bound to set itself up for failure. 
We are guarded against prejudice and stereotyping when it comes to serving others, as those are two factors that will collapse relationship building, communication and understanding those whom we serve.
Accountability and transparency are integral components of building and maintaining relationships with all our stakeholders.

Collaboration is a way we organize and set ourselves up in order to achieve a common goal. One brick can not build a home, but skillfully placed bricks together form secure walls that not only protect the structure, but support the roof! Well coordinated collaboration (denoted by the walls) is as relevant to the building of any well structured home as it is to plan and coordinate with different constituents to truly ad value to those we serve.

The Roof and related structure symbolize the Impact of being centered on the community and collaboration. A home is simply not complete without a roof, and you would not be able to call it a home. In the same way, those we serve without impact, is like a home without a roof. It does not serve the intended purpose.

The cross at the center of the emblem represents Focus and Intent. Without focus, one can not advance progress and growth for those we serve. Intent is the commitment that carries focus forward in order to stay on course with our mission.

Yes, and It all starts at home. The better we can self reflect and adjust as individuals in finding your purpose for the good of yourself and your family, the better you will be in adding value and be useful for our neighbors and extended communities.

There are some people whose love is so unconditional and unwavering, that it shapes the course of lives and leaves behind a legacy that echoes far beyond their years. Mamma Gladys , the founder of Door of Hope in Port Elizabeth, was one of those people. She was not only the heart behind Door of Hope; she was a mother, a grandmother, a mentor, and a relentless force of encouragement.
